In 2001 we received the following letter from the charity:
|
Dear Mr Page
Jeanette Scott, our Chairman and Organiser, tells me that the recent credit of £246.45 on our bank statement reflects the proceeds of your dance evening at St Mary's Church Centre.
We are delighted that you have chosen to continue to support Janet Oates' little charity in this way, after her untimely death earlier this year. We have difficulty in making ends meet and your donation is crucial. Two of our imminent expenditures are to subsidise our club members' attendance at the Camus' production of 'Mack and Mabel' and the club's Christmas party. These treats are in addition to the club meetings, three times a week, at which Jeanette seeks to bring some social pleasures to our ex-psychiatric patients.
We have succeeded in attracting grants from local authorities but there is always a gap of over £2,000, which we struggle to meet by fund raising activities and donations such as yours. The loss of Janet is doubly sad in that we have lost our main fund raiser.
So you can see how pleased we are to receive your help!
Yours sincerely N H Bennet Trustee and Hon Treasurer |
Camberley District Open Mind Association provides support to people who are suffering from a mental illness or who have had a mental illness and find it has greatly affected their life, and who live in or around Camberley or Farnborough. It does this mainly by running a day centre known as the
'Open Mind Club' which started in September 1979, and has around 30 members.
The club is held in Camberley on three days each week. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided each day and a soup and sandwich lunch once a week. Most members attend once, twice or three times per week.
The association helps members get to club meetings by providing transport for those who need it (this also encourages people to get up in the morning as they know someone is fetching them). At the club, members are encouraged to take part in activities; craft materials and various games are provided, and other activities such as speakers are organised on an occasional basis.
The club arranges theatre trips, one or more outings in summer and a Christmas party.
Registered Charity number 1072219.
